I like them best when they are sleeping…

Every night before I go to bed, I visit each of the children’s rooms to check on them. The initial purpose is to ensure that no one has stolen them while they slept (I watch a lot of Criminal Minds on TV), to see if they are alright (I’ve discovered my fair share of fever [...]

As a mom of older children who are now away from home and on their own, I must admit, when they come home for a vacation I still find myself “checking” on them at night. Sometimes it leads to wonderful and unexpected conversations. Sometimes they are fast asleep and I get to go back in time to those wonderful early years when I too ended up just staring at their faces. Keep checking!

I totally agree. I also like my husband when he is sleeping! ;) It is a constant reminder of their innocence despite having driven me crazy that day, beat on each other, etc.

The amazing thing is that even though my youngest is 13 and my oldest is 18 I STILL like them best when they are sleeping!

I thought I was the only one doing the before bed checks. I too have watched too many lifetime movies! Sometimes I hug and kiss on them sooooo much when they are asleep: sometimes it even wakes them up! Lol

I do that too! My husband doesn’t understand why, but I can’t be comfortable in bed without making sure our 13 month old is comfortable in her crib. And yes, I had to stop watching Criminal Minds when baby was born – it was making me crazy.

But, I will say this — those of you with grown-grown children, please don’t check on them at night anymore… at least not after they’re married! My MIL checked in on my husband one night, when we were all staying at Grandma’s house for the holidays. I woke up to find her bent over his face to see if he was still breathing. Scared the sleep out of me! Of course, he never noticed.
